Janine Williams, “Fabu”

Music in the 90’s had an effect on your mind, body and soul. It’s amazing what a few words and a beat can do to a person. Music can make fans feel promiscuous, gloomy or may even excite us in some way. Sometimes an artist’s lyrical music is our reality.  Or is our reality their truth?
What about the people who created the music? What about the artist who spent their whole life wanting to make it big someday… what about that Detroit native who did make it…
I had a chance to catch up with Janine Williams, from the late 90’s female duo, “Fabu” – signed to Atlantic Records. Don’t remember “Fabu”? If you were old enough to appreciate good music in the 90’s, “Fabu” peaked #88 on the Billboards Hot 100 chart and #28 on the Billboards Hot R&B Singles chart. With their one hit wonder single, “Just Roll” they toured over 15 states, performed in London, and even made their way to “Soul Train”.  The hit duo met in ’94 and the rest was history. With “Fabu” originally starting out with four women, Janine and Christia Hayes seemed to have similar focal points on what was best for the group and became a female duo. Janine still has a hand in the music industry but desires to create less suggestive music. Janine’s career is on the rise, whether it’s her appearing in local projects, doing voiceovers or writing music for up-and-coming artists she maintains her piece of mind. You can catch Janine in the new hit movie, “Sparkle”.

Marcus Devine, “DaHeatMizer”

Marcus Devine

After 20 years of experience in the music industry, this creative artist has worked with many artists who most dream about or admire from a distance; Destiny’s Child, Dave Hollister, Silk, Mario, Olivia, Monica, Xscape, Aaliyah and Charlie Wilson just to name a few. After chatting with Marcus, I was astonished as to how many people he had worked with. I soon realized that it was his drive, persistence and willingness to never be completely satisfied, was his recipe for success.
Marcus Devine is an artist, he creates music for the soul, but there is another side to Marcus formally known as,  “DaHeatMizer”. “DaHeatMizer” is simply the producer side of Marcus Devine. With his single, “Ground Ball”, that dropped October 1st, he apparently has his fans wanting more. According to Marcus, his fan base consists of “relationship driven people” but his music can also appeal to us single folk too! With the music industry having its constant struggles, Marcus still finds three positive words to describe his career…fulfilling, trying and exciting. As Marcus remains humble and reminds himself of how he wants to remember his rearview mirror memories he continues to strive towards his ultimate goal, remaining focused. You can check out more of Marcus’s music, via iTunes.
